As a social care provider, you are responsible for keeping personal information about staff and people who use your service safe.
This means protecting all the information you hold from loss, inappropriate access, or inappropriate changes, whether intentional or unintentional. This applies whether you store information on paper or digitally.
Cyber security means protecting the devices you use and the online services you access from cyber attacks (unauthorised access or damage). Being cyber resilient means you can also respond to and minimise the damage caused by attacks, if they happen.
To make sure you are handling information safely and are cyber secure, you should:
- complete the Data Security and Protection Toolkit yearly
- get free, expert support from the Better Security, Better Care programme
- Follow the guidance on NHS England’s Information governance portal
